Priscilla's
Back In Town! -- February 2000
Happy
Millennium to all you Fabulous Long Island GLBTs! Priscilla
Pride is back in town after what proved to
be the most successful and ultra chic Y2K tour
of the holiday season. Darlings, I went Island hopping (Staten,
Manhattan and of course Long) from one exciting adventure
to another ringing in the new century.
All
the Long Island bars hosted such FABOOOO party celebrations.
Of course, Priscilla traveled incognito so no one had a clue
she was there. Let me tell you the soirees were a hit judging
by the fun Priscilla witnessed first hand. So congrats to
all the bar owners for starting the new century with fun,
frivolity and making the festivities very GAY!
I
traveled to the East End and the North Fork, through the
South
Fork and Montauk. My limo went from the North Shore to the
South Shore. I was famished from all the party hopping,
since
like any dainty lady I never ate more than a cracker. I told
Fabrizio, my 6' tall rugged Italian chauffeur, to stop
at
that quaint restaurant in Smithtown, Close To Home.
The food is fabulous and dining is always a pleasure. Of
course
you all know that Close To Home made Newsday's Top 10
List of Long Island Restaurants. Call now for your reservations
darlings, Close To Home is fast becoming the
place to dine.
I
whizzed to the South Shore, stopping into the Community
House of Long Island to tinkle, since a building was
recently purchased. The things one hears in restrooms these
days... my, my! Anyway, reliable sources tell me that there
is a big to-do planned March 19 to celebrate the Community
House Grand Opening. So spread the word as only you Pride
People can and put those party togs and clogs back on kiddies,
and toast their efforts in supplying a haven for the Long
Island Community!
Once
back in the limo, Fabrizio reminded me to call Marcia Namowitz
from American Express Financial Advisors. I whipped out that
cell phone and dialed 228-0100. Yes dearies Priscilla is satellite
linked to sources everywhere, now that Fabrizio taught me
about global connectivity. ANYWAY... once Marcia picked up
the call I heard shouting and party noises. Moi was jealous.
A party without Priscilla, quelle damage! It seems American
Express Financial Advisors awarded our own Marcia Namowitz
with the President's Recognition Award. This is a national
award for quality of Financial Planning Advice. Priscilla
can attest to Marcia's skills. It was only six months ago
that Marcia invested my inheritance from Giacomo after his
untimely demise in that ski accident in the Alps. I can still
hear his voice echo away as I pushed, ummmm, tried to pull
him to safety.
I
bumped into several couples about to celebrate anniversaries
this year. That's right kiddies, we have several newly wedded
couples, committed (oops), devoted to one another. I ran into
Barbara and Claire about to celebrate their
first anniversary. I'm teary and weepy... please pass me the
hankie darlings! Claire already took the Modern approach and
presented Barbara with a watch (for all of you not in the
know kinda gals... 1st Anniversary Modern Gifts
are clocks while those Traditional gals give Paper), so Barbara
what's in store for Claire? I see something chic in colored
paper by that famous designer Origami. According
to the two lovebirds, their biggest challenge this year was
not killing each other but their greatest joy is knowing it's
forever. I heard that collective sigh from all of you in love
out there. What's even sweeter is the way they look at each
other. Priscilla is green with envy!
I
had to stop into my favorite lesbian bar on Long Island, in
fact it's the only lesbian bar but who's keeping track, Forever
Green. I sat down and took a load off these pumps and guess
who jumped onto the stool next to me? None other than that
Hot, Latin couple Eva and Rosie. Those two could
Lambada and Samba, Rumba and Cha-Cha like no one can. Priscilla
knows darlings; I attended their wedding two years ago. You
doubt me? Moi? Honey, Priscilla is everywhere. The Chateau
Le Mer never threw a wilder party, well... not exactly true.
Priscilla attended another ceremony last year that rivaled
Eva and Rosie's. The ceremony that rocked August 1999 was
Pat and Janelle's. I hear tell that Priscilla
is caught on video doing the hustle with Pat and putting the
sizzle moves on Janelle. Anyone who is anyone knows Priscilla
loves to dance and if you need proof just look at Pat and
Janelle's wedding video. I am blowing kisses to these three
fabulous, loving couples... smooch, smooch!
Now
before we move on, we have one more bit of wedding bell news
to announce. This holiday season another fabulous couple announced
their lifetime intentions to one another. John and
Russ proclaimed their plans to spend their lives together
and the party that followed made headlines across the globe.
Well, maybe not the globe but certainly within their own sphere
of influence. Friends and family celebrated this momentous
occasion and nothing but love and joy is wished for what will
prove to be a lifetime filled with happiness.
Oh
my stars... I can't believe it... the news wire is just ticking
off this hot story... ooooohh, and it's a juicy one boys and
girls. It's a beauty pageant scandal that will erase Vanessa
and Miss America right out of the record books. What recent
winner of the Miss Long Island Gay Pride pageant fell off
her pedestal so hard, that she ripped her hose, chipped a
nail and lost her wig (tiara and all)? Well, we all know Priscilla
never kicks a gal when she's down on her knee, coal dust blowing
in her face. So with no one to represent them this year, the
Long Island
Pride Parade Committee unanimously voted Eva
the Diva, Miss Long Island Gay Pride once again. Eva is
stepping in to help the Parade Committee make this year's
10th Anniversary celebration the best ever! The
scoop is that Eva's successor, crowned September 1999, never
honored her commitments to date and the committee needed the
10th Anniversary year to be graced by someone with
style and class. So of course they asked Eva the Diva to represent
them once again. The
Bunkhouse hosted a crowning ceremony January 24. Priscilla
just confirmed through sources unnamed that it was a night
filled with gaiety, laughter and a possible scandal or two!
This is definitely one event that will live on forever in
pageant history.
More
pageant news... I've never seen so much hairspray and tiaras
since Sotheby's handled the Suzanne Sugarbaker auction last
fall. Miss Auntie M's 2000 was crowned on January 16
at Auntie
M's. The second runner-up was Eva the Diva while TYRA
ALLURE came in first. The judging was unanimous and
Priscilla only hopes the year 2000 will allow a healing within
the Long Island Drag Queen community. Come on girls, let's
all kiss, kiss and wish these gals lots of love. More on any
juicy pageant scandals in our next issue after Priscilla checks
a fact or two!
Toodles
darlings! Fabrizio and I are mapping our route to cover all
those Valentine's Day celebrations.
Priscilla
Pride is always on the prowl... so beware!
Ciao
bellas!
