June-Pride's
Bustin' Out All Over!!! -- June 2001
Hello darlings! It's that time of year again...that's right
summer is fast approaching. Did you lose those extra winter
pounds, have you finalized those FIRE ISLAND plans, are you
thinking of a P-TOWN visit, are you making plans for PRIDE
month? June 10th is the 11th
Annual Long
Island Pride Parade. Now I know that most of you cuties
attend the NYC festivities
the last Sunday in June, but if you haven't attended Long
Island's PRIDE day in a few years this is the year to COME
BACK, LITTLE SHEBA! Dress in your best PRIDE togs, get to
Huntington on June 10th and applaud Long Island
Pride as 50 groups march down Main Street. Then head onto
Heckscher Park on Main Street to dance and watch a fun-packed
show! Look for Priscilla in my new ensemble designed by Hung-Ah-Row
(twisted sister of designer Ungaro known for his diaphanous
silk designs). My new tie-dyed wrap silk dress can also be
used as beach blanket for 4 on Fire Island when I stroll on
the sands! Multi-purpose clothing, I love it!
Check
out the Official Long
Island Pride Parade Journal in this issue. The entertainment
line-up is simply FABOO. Pandora's
Vox, JUDY GOLD and
Randy Roberts...WOW, Long Island Pride Parade Inc. have worked
their tooshies off to provide a festival extravaganza! Sandy
Rapp will perform at the Rally where the marching groups
line up. Politicos and such will pump the crowd up so that
they march PROUD and LOUD! Grand Marshals Bill Borman (too
cute) and OUT
IN LI (these young men and women are so adorable) will
speak to the crowd as well. If your group hasn't signed up
to march yet... WELL, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???? Don't get
left out dearies, call the Parade Committee at (631) 321-0906;
there's still time to register!
Besides
the wonderful food, PRIDE Merchandise for sale and the spirit
the day offers...the committee once again will allow the Long
Island GLBT non-profits a space to display their groups' information.
This is the perfect opportunity to find out which PRIDE events
still lie ahead in June for Long Island GLBTs. One that comes
to mind...LIPSA (Long Island Pride Sports Association)
is having a Sports soiree on June 16th. For further
information call John Capobianco at (631) 293-0985. LIPSA
has other wonderful activities planned for the rest of the
year! I think they need a CHEERLEADING squad, don't you? Priscilla
and her drag sisters should think about this for next year!
I see us in pleated short skirts and PRIDE pom-poms!
Visit
the local GLBT tables at the Festival and find out about volunteering
and upcoming events. Book your social calendar and support
Long Island Pride all at once. Learn about the Community
House of Long Island and their events including the
annual Long Island
Gay and Lesbian Film Festival at Huntington Cinema
Arts Centre. Political and human rights issues information
that affect our community can be obtained from The
Human Rights Campaign and Empire
State Pride Agenda. Sashay through the sections of
tables containing information, looking fabulous in your PRIDE-wear,
and visit such noteworthy groups as Gay Democrats of Long
Island, GBLT Switchboard, LI
BEARS, and many more!
Don't
forget that James Gale and Greg Noone from Thursday's
Child will be announcing the winner of
their GIANT 50/50 at the Festival on June10th! There
is still time to buy a $100 chance to win. First prize is
$3,000 so contact Linda at Thursday's Child via phone (631)
447-5044 or stop by their office at 80 Terry Street, Patchogue.
CASH OR CHECK only! Help support this worthy group. They provide
education, outreach and mostly housing for individuals and
families who are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Thursday's
Child could use your helping hands as volunteers, so give
them a call.
See
you in Cherry Grove or the Pines this summer. Priscilla already
booked her dates and will report in August about the goings
on across the bay! One sad note: MICHAEL's of Cherry Grove
burned down recently, dock and all. Priscilla ate breakfasts
there every day. Some of their special nights were fablulous
(LOBSTER dinner night, where the drawn butter oozes down my
chin and Fabrizio is there as a loyal servant lick... I mean
wiping away the grease) while others made me cringe (Italian
buffet night, where my dead Italian ancestors rose from the
grave and smacked me silly for eating that sauce). Plans are
in the works to rebuild this Cherry Grove institution. The
question is will something be rebuilt in time for this season?
I wish them well!
Here's
wishing you all a fabulous summer basking in the sun! Remember
-- MOISTURIZE!
KISS/KISS!,
Priscilla.
