Spring
Ahead/Fall Back-
So by now all of you who showed up late for
meetings since October 28th should realize that
your clocks have to be moved back one hour! OOPS! That's right,
it's that time of year - FALL. The leaves turning colors,
russets/gold and burnt orange; pumpkin and apple picking;
Turkey Day coming around the corner with Christmas right behind!
Party after party, spreading some holiday cheer! It's that
time of year when all bad girls and boys buy their wardrobes
from that Specialty House -- Rubbermaid.
They don't just make food containers you know! They have a
faboo line of clothes made with elastic that helps us out
with those extra holiday pounds. Look for their catalog in
your local supermarkets. It's simply divine.

Priscilla
is saddened to report that LIGALY's
Adult Prom has been postponed from November 3rd
to some time next year. I must say the buzz about this event
spread across the Island but apparently our community just
could not think of Prom in the fall. Priscilla does send lots
of hugs and kisses to those involved in LIGALY's events: David,
Robert, Yvonne, Lenore, Joe, Keith, Louis and the Board. Your
tireless work for Long Island GLBT youth is much appreciated.
How about a combined Prom with the kids and make it an alcohol-free
event? Please fellow GLBTs, think about it! Come on. Must
we have a cocktail at every event? If so, what about some
VIRGIN concoctions... sometimes the illusion is more promising
than the real thing! LIGALY,
think it over! The Candle Light Vigil,
held October 12th, honoring Coming Out Day
and in memory of those lost in the September 11th
tragedy was heartwarming and beautiful. I was heartened to
see members from GALFOLI,
Jim Coppola and Barry Jones,
Jim Pizzo from GALFOLI
and The
Long Island Pride Parade Committee. Jim gave a touching
speech, as did State Assemblyman
Philip Boyle. About 100 GLBT youth and adults attended.
It was great seeing Maxine
Postal, who arrived after the vigil but still found
time to come and greet the GLBT youth at the LIGALY
offices!
You
go Maxine,
girl! She is up for re-election this November as Suffolk County
Legislator for the 15th District. This district
includes Wheatley Heights, Wyandanch, North Amityville, parts
of Amityville Village, Copiague, North Lindenhurst, West Babylon,
North Babylon, and the portion of Farmingdale that lies in
Suffolk County. So no excuses get up and vote for this worthy
candidate. Maxine and I spend many a Day of Beauty
together and I can tell you all that she is beauteous both
inside and out! What a devoted gal to our Long Island GLBT
community she is!
Expect
to see Maxine Postal and Jon
Cooper at The
Long Island Pride Parade Committee's 6th Annual
Winter Ball. That's
right ladies and gentlemen; it's that time of year. Winter
Chic is the dress code for this fabulous event. The committee
expects over 500 people to attend Sunday -- December 2nd,
at The West Lake Inn, Patchogue. The evening runs from 6:30
PM to Midnight and features a Cocktail Hour, Sit Down Dinner,
Dessert, and Dancing to Spinning by DJ DENISE
of Twisted Dee Productions! This is the affair of the
season for the past 5 years and anyone who is anyone attends.
The cost of the evening is $60 per person, Cash Bar. Advance
Sale Tickets ONLY! Hint: I hear tell that the easiest way
to guarantee you sit with your group is select a team leader
and have that organized person send in your ticket order.
We all know there is one amongst our sphere of influence who
is SOOO anal retentive that loves to plan our groups' events!
See you at the Ball...hhhmmm...I wonder who will be my prince
at the stroke of midnight???
I
mentioned Jon Cooper before,
another important friend of our Long Island GLBT community
up for re-election. He is running again for the 18th
District's Suffolk County Legislator. His district encompasses
the northern portion of Huntington Township. VOTE... VOTE...
VOTE! We can make a difference. The
Suffolk County Board of Elections can be reached at (631)
852-4500 and the Nassau
County Board of Elections phone number is (516) 571-2411.
Call them to find out where you should vote in your district
on Tuesday, November 6th from 6 AM to 9 PM. Remember
to wear a smart RED, WHITE and BLUE ensemble, I have mine
already picked out. It's the signature multi-layered pants
suit from the House of PROUDA (recently split from PRADA in
a bitter dispute. I hear tell the catfight/split was over
the use of colors. See PRADA loves Black but PROUDA is into
mutli-colors, you go boys and girls!).
I
recently met several candidates running for office at the
Community House
of Long Island (CHOLI) event, Meet The Candidates.
CHOLI hosts so many wonderful events each season. They just
had their COMING OUT DANCE on October 10th at
the Historical
Thatched Cottage. CHOLI's Board outdid themselves once
again. About 150+ attended an evening filled with dining,
dancing and awards. The festivities was a fabulous tribute
to National
Coming Out Day and the awards honored the bars and many
worthy friends who work hard for our community. They established
the Robert M. Jackson Award for Community Service and
its first recipient, Rob Jackson, blushed when I congratulated
him. Rob works hard for many organizations he donates his
time, yet his work for CHOLI since its inception has been
tireless! Priscilla sends a big, juicy, wet kiss your way
Rob. You go boy! I hear tell that Rob was serenaded that evening
by one of the CHOLI board members... do we have a rising star
amongst us???? Today... CHOLI! Tomorrow... BROADWAY! Speaking
of Broadway... CHOLI is hosting a Broadway By The Bay
event on Monday, November 19th. Jekyll & Hyde
star Christiane Noll will
perform. She is simply too divine. I saw her on Broadway,
in Carousel at the Paper Mill Playhouse in NJ and have some
of her CDs. She is too, too fabulous to miss. The event is
at The Historical Thatched Cottage once again and ticket
information is available on CHOLI's web site.
Once
again, CHOLI Board member and devoted friend to the
LI GLBT community Ralph Colamussi opened The
Historical Thatched Cottage doors to a LI GLBT community
event. Ralph, owner of the facility, is a treasure these past
few years. Our community events at The Historical Thatched
Cottage have been nothing short of tres chic!!! We love Ralph
and his staff and Priscilla says Thank You on behalf of us
all! Ralph recently catered the Long
Island Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Sunday Brunch and
also donated breakfast goodies to the hard working Parade
Committee members on site at Heckscher Park. I hear tell he
made Jim Pizzo weep, no small feat young man! LET'S HEAR IT
FOR RALPH... HIP, HIP HOORAY! Smooches doll face!
I
mentioned GALFOLI
before and want to update all of you with their Dock
of the Bay 2001 news! This year's event netted close to
$30,000. Their Board also has hard working men and women tirelessly
working for our community. The money raised is available to
LI GLBT 501 c 3 organizations that meet the guidelines listed
on GALFOLI's
website. As a matter of fact, go their site: www.galfoli.org
and see how your organization might be eligible for a grant.
GALFOLI is also one of the many worthy Long Island community
groups that could use your help in organizing their events.
That's
right kiddies; it is our responsibility to make sure our PRIDE
Heritage marches on for future generations. So tape that Ally
chick's show or watch MUST SEE TV NIGHT in reruns and get
out and volunteer for one of the many groups mentioned in
this entire article. You can call The
Gay & Lesbian
Switchboard at their new number (631) 665-3700 to obtain
other worthy groups' phone numbers.
One
final note: Priscilla will be spotlighting a bartender in
each issue. My premiere hottie/cutie is Peter from
CLUB
608 and The
Bunkhouse. He rotates week to week on Tuesdays and
Saturdays at both places and girls he makes some mean drinks.
I hear tell that he cracks a smile at the drop of hat. I know
that smile well, but that's not all he drops at a hat...catch
my drift...WHAT, I meant those tips in his basket, er I mean
bucket...get those minds out of the gutter. Better yet get
out there and visit him soon at CLUB
608 or The
Bunkhouse and you are promised a fabulous night out! Thanksgiving
is coming so share a holiday drink with this welcomed addition
to the Long Island GLBT bar scene! Priscilla loves you Peter!
Kiss, Kiss!
TaTa
for now sweeties!
