Long Island Dish with Priscilla

Get the Dish with Miss Priscilla Pride!
by Miss Priscilla Pride

"...When I See A Robin Winging, I Always Feel Like Singing, Spring Is In The Air! Spring! Spring! Then Flowers Are Blooming And Birdies Are Crooning and Lovers Hand In Hand Are Swooning, Suddenly Appear, Looks Like Spring, Feels Like Spring, Spring Is Here!..."

That was an old song from my chorale days kids. I think it's time to update those lyrics. "When I see my Bobby swinging, that purse he's always slinging. Queer is in the air! Queer! Queer! Then dresses at Bloomies, strange looks from his roomies and Bobby's make-up tips sent to me, finally it's clear, looks like he's, seems like he's, Bobby's Queer... YEAH!"

We just had the VERNAL EQUINOX! No, not a reunion of Laverne & Shirley where Verne imitates Catherine The Great and the famous horse routine! It's SPRING! March 21st was the first day of Spring and the term Vernal Equinox means the time when the sun crosses the plane of the earth's equator, making night and day of approximately equal length all over the earth occurring about March 21st. I aim to teach something new each month...I'm in my prime like Miss Jean Brodie, "my girls, my girls, my Brodie girls!" Ahhh!

SPRING - flowers, Easter, Passover! How quickly I jump to food. SEGUE...those March events were simply fabulous, applause to you all! Each group that hosted a March event outdid themselves once again. I ate my way through each soiree and still managed to lose weight, 16 lbs. in 8 weeks to be exact. I'm on the new Weight Watchers Points program. I thought it meant go to a diner, Point at the food you want, order and eat it. Imagine what I thought when I realized what it really meant! I'm doing it right though and it's working. My goal is to be a THONG model for that new publication, BIG & SASSY - a monthly magazine dedicated to us big-boned gals! Just pulling your leg.

My real goal is to keep losing, losing, losing until summer so I can fit into my new line of clothes designed by NORMANDO TAMALE, Mexican cousin of that hot NY designer Norma Kamali. Norma is known for her sassy collection of Silk Charmuese and her unique undergarment-like swimwear. Well Normando has developed a faux collection entitled Silk CharredMoose - loose, flowey kind of caftans with fabulous animal prints and his beachwear collection for us big boned gals is not to be missed, not that you could even if you tried. Think girdles and you guessed it, one-piece swimwear. I can't wait.

MARCH REVIEW- March seemed to whizzzz right by but didn't we have fun!? From those St. Patty Day bashes sponsored by CHOLI and The Long Island Pride Parade Committee to The Long Island Wranglers country ho-down at CHOLI and The L.I. Ravens MC 10th Anniversary weekend bash and X-Rated Ball, the community had a lot of fun events to choose from...and they did. Each event was a smash! I heard that the Parade Committee had to add tables to accommodate the crowd; the Long Island Wranglers had a boot-stompin', barn-stormin', roof-raisin' spectacular good time - YEE HA!; and the X-RATED Ball... well, from Al Lawrence being serenaded to the strains of "Brother Can You Spare a Dime" sung by pledge Tom Hroncich to the hot man show presented, the crowd whipped their hides into shape on the dance floor. Those Raven men know how to celebrate. Celebrated indeed, it's their 10th Anniversary! Traditionally the 10th year offers tin or aluminum and the rings the men were sportin' in and out of view can attest to whether tradition was followed. But those modern men will happy to know that LEATHER is the appropriate 10th anniversary gift. All I can say is, how apropos!

Well, according to my sources, all had a good time! Now for April:

April 9th - The Long Island Gay Men's Discussion Group presents the 2nd annual INTERNATIONAL GOURMET TASTINGS AND AWARDS NIGHT. The group's members whip up their finest dishes, yummy! They will honor Al Lawrence and Paul Paquette with The Community Achievement Award. Time - 8 PM, $5 admission at The Ethical Humanist Society Building at 38 Old Country Rd., Garden City. Call (516) 694-2407 for reservations and further info.

April 10th - the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Science Fiction Fandom announces their regular meeting night will also include watching ENTERPRISE, at CHOLI. I think if the stars are all aligned properly we may see a few members beaming up beyond and back! Plans will also be made to attend ICON at Stony Brook the April 19th weekend. I hear tell they also are planning a Tuesday evening "Buffy-thon," oh how those sci-fi fans like to see a woman take her man down! Visit their website: http://hometown.aol.com/ligaysf/index.html (whew, that's a mouthful)!

April 12th - THE COFFEE HOUSE CAFÉ: A BENEFIT FOR THE GAY AND LESBIAN SWITCHBOARD OF LONG ISLAND takes place at the Historical Thatched Cottage. Scheduled to welcome in Spring with their performances are: Michael Bonti, Dennis Milone, and Estrogen. This is The Switchboard's most popular event so book fast or you will miss out on an exciting evening! Tickets are $18 in advance and $22 at the door (if available) with coffee and refreshments included. The evening starts at 8:30 PM. Need more information, call Joan at (631) 399-2234 (she's a cutie, you had to see her at LIGALY's Mardi Gras in her mask...I love her...you ROCK Joan!)

April 13th - another country jamboree hosted by The Long Island Wranglers is planned at CHOLI. The first one was such a success they are a-pickin' and a-grinnin' to have themselves another boot-stompin' good old time! So mosey on down to CHOLI at 8 PM that Saturday and set a spell! Ride ‘em Cowboys & Cowgirls! Just don't brand them too hard!

April 17th - that wonderful 20+ something crowd, OUT IN LI, has a chock full April calendar. This date is their Summer Planning meeting and they need your help in planning exciting June, July and August events. Of course one of those events will certainly be their presence at this year's Long Island PRIDE day, right kids? Another April date is the 19th - ROLLER SKATING! That's right the kids are heading to United Skates of America from 8:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Skates or roller blades can be rented for $2.50 and admission is $6.50. Priscilla is the Rollerina Queen Diva of Long Island and plans to attend wearing a lovely ensemble as a tribute to figure skater Sonya Henie, wrong sport surely but no one compares on ice or wood to that Norwegian goddess! May is shaping up to be a busy month for OUT IN LI as well. They ask us all to join TEAM OUT IN LI as they walk to raise money for AIDS. Click on www.outinli.org and find out about it!

April 18th - hot, new gay-friendly group TRAGIC SENSE, www.tragicsense.com, performs live in Babylon at the Zen Den at 10:30 PM. They are on at 10:30 PM and the singer is very Enya-esque in sound! Jordan Durante, leader of the group, is excited about this Long Island showcase of the group! Bring a friend and see what Priscilla is so excited about. I predict this group will become a hit, so see them now before they play to sell out crowds!

April 19th - the next screening of shorts (not men in pants doing runway - films darling, films!) by the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Committee will be at CHOLI. Admission is $3. Participate in a lively view and discussion following as some of these short subject films are being considered for this November's Festival!

April 20th - A NITE OF ELEGANCE: SINGLETONS (for singles and couples - special singles table) is booked at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course, Woodbury, NY at 8:30 PM - 12:30 AM. Included: Buffet (served between 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM), coffee bar & dessert, cash bar, door prizes, 50/50 raffle. DJ Nancy B will spin the tunes to get you on your feet. Price is $35 in advance and $40 at door. For more info call Helaine at (516) 624-7290 or Carol at (516) 520-7430.

April 21st - Nassau County Lesbian & Gay Democrats SPRING BRUNCH - 12 noon to 3 PM, at R.S. Jones at 153 Merrick Ave., Merrick (516) 378-7177. Mix and mingle with these political hotties, especially Bill Borman. He's politically savvy and world-traveled but knows all the au courant important political issues that are critical for us to be aware of this election year. All the members of this worthy group urge you to come down, have some fun, get some good eats and ask questions...they are here to help you! The Nassau Human Rights Law was amended. Domestic partnership is next on the agenda, SONDA is still pending and we elect a new governor in 2002! Put the date on your calendar now! It's $30 in advance (received by 4/8) and $35 at the door.

April 27th - leather it up for PRIDE! The Long Island Pride Parade Committee hosts another fund-raiser at the L.I. Eagle for our 12th Annual Long Island Pride Parade and Festival In The Park this June 9th. There will be cute bar tenders and hot surprises, so get those chaps out of the closet, slip on those boots, crack that whip and snap to at the L.I. Eagle on Saturday, April 27th at 9 PM.

Remember, "April showers bring May flowers." May is also famous for Mother's Day! That reminds me my hot, Italian stud Fabrizio comes home to mama Priscilla next month. I can't wait! Don't worry; I'll fill you in on all his escapades since he abruptly left my employ last year with that South American stud (so we thought!). Apparently little Latin Lupe does Drag and this upset Fabrizio. So I guess that stud is not performing as a stud-ette and Fabrizio is more upset that he was lied to than finding out about the Drag Act!

Till then, CIAO!
