Long Island Dish with Priscilla

Get the Dish with Miss Priscilla Pride!
by Miss Priscilla Pride

"Oh Mary We Crown Thee With Blossoms Today! Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May!"

Priscilla is back and the title of this month's article comes from my Catholic schoolgirl days. The lyric is from the May crowning ceremonies of Mary, the mother of all mothers! I love her so much and think back fondly to those crowing ceremonies with such joy, I still get teary, weepy. I remember in 2nd grade Sr. Antoinette Marie picked me to crown Mary and I hate myself now for not wearing the fabulous sky blue gown mama picked; I chose my basic white instead. For the upcoming LONG ISLAND PRIDE DAY festivities this coming June 9th, I think it's time I rewrite the above lyric... here it goes... "All Homos caught wearing PRIDE COLORS that day! Linked to my heart, You're Queen of PRIDE DAY!" I should become a songwriter; damn I'm good!

My PRIDE gown this year is by twin gay/lesbian designers SEW & sew. They created a special ensemble that looks different from either profile... one side is by SEW and the other is sew's, and it definitely is not just so/so, but it's SO fabulous! If you can guess which profile belongs to which SEW & sew, you'll win a special SOHO dinner with Priscilla... Sooo... look for me June 9th!

Lots of things going on this month... first and foremost... Mother's Day! Send those cards and flowers and for those like me who lost my dear mom 9 years ago, remember our moms in a special way today. My sisters, Misty Blue and SinDi Saratoga, and I head out to the east end and have a brunch every year. While we sing ‘Here's to the ladies who lunch... " we toast back a few to those big shoulder broads we call mom with love and kisses!

REVISIOSN TO MY REPORT IN MAY PARLEE... May 10th the Long Island Pride Parade Committee is hosting 2 fundraising events... CORRECTION - Friday, May 10th the committee is hosting a fundraising event at LIGALY with those cute kids. MIRKALA CRYSTAL plans to wow the kids with a drag show extravaganza! The kids want to raise some money and show the community that the youth too support and understand the importance of Long Island PRIDE!

May 11th -- Saturday night at Blanche at 8 PM the Parade Committee will feature Raffle Mania. Buy your tickets early and often, I hear the prizes are simply FABOOOO!

Other noteworthy Long Island groups (those who can march June 9th better sign up) holding May events:

Marriage Equality New York Long Island Chapter (MELI) -- an organization solely devoted to securing the right for same-sex couples to enter into legally recognized CIVIL marriages. For more information about this group, call Harlan Pruden at (631) 334-5406 or Robert Lassegue at (631) 431-3814. If only I had a group supporting me when I broke up with my 5 husbands... well, not really husbands, that's why we need to get them all the support we can, I can only call them husband in name only. And before the emails fly back... no I am not making fun of the group... I do believe in same sex CIVIL marriages, I just haven't found Mr. Right, instead I always seem to find Mr. ‘LEFT ‘CAUSE I CAN'T COMMIT'.

That cute new age group TRAGIC SENSE that I previously reported about in LICKtheWeb performed Thursday, April 18th, at ZEN DEN (a Babylon coffee house by the RR tracks). Who knew Babylon was so chic to have a coffee house? Hell, I figured the place to be a seedy dive and instead it's so chi-chi and the coffees ain't bad either. Jordan Durante, leader of the group, is so cute when playing keyboards and the singer is to die for. Visit www.tragicsense.com and hear some of their stuff, you'll never want to turn it off and can contact them for future performance dates through the site.

Stony Brook Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Alliance, the oldest of its kind on Long Island founded in 1974, caters to the growing population of LGBT students, faculty, and staff on the campus of Stony Brook University. This year the LGBTA constructed a twenty-foot long wall celebrating the diversity that exists within our community. They highlighted about 50 LGBT individuals from the present and the past, gave out information about the group, and handed out surveys pertaining to queer life on campus. LGBTA works along with the graduate group called Queer Alliance in organizing the annual "Sit OUT," where they take over a section of grass and make it a Safe Space for everyone to listen to music, have fun, play Frisbee, and just hang out with friends. Contact either of two co-presidents, Lowell Kane and Matthew Napolitano, at (631) 632-6469 or by email at SBLGBTA@AOL.COM for more info... they are so cute and so committed to perpetuating PRIDE, that Priscilla gets all weepy when she sees good work in action!

I visited Cherry Grove April 20th to give you some of the pre-season buzz! It felt weird seeing the shell of Michael's old haunt still there, realizing that nothing will be built on that site this season once again! What's a hungry gal to do??? Well, let me tell you... Rachel's is still in business and Priscilla told them to make sure they serve it hot and serve it fast. There is nothing worse than a starving Drag Queen honey... feed me, get me a cocktail, help dress me and don't write me any bad checks... that's one of the many ways to keep me smilin'! Cherry Pit will reopen and they serve a fabulous lunch and dinner menu for those wanting to dine al fresco on the Bay. The boats that moor will find a surprise this year. Cherry's is built out and is all one level now so those who used to sit and watch the crowd on the dock, have to do so on the boats... quelle damage for them, quelle joy for us since now we have more room to dance and make merry! Top of the Bay is planning to open once again and those boys know how to treat a lady with style and class! I love the sunset views and the food... yummy with a spoon... now they have to take my advice as well! Listen up owners, hire more help and have them all be a teensy bit more service oriented... again, hot and fast like my men is what I like... and not fast in the flat bed sense if you catch my drift, but someone who can keep up with me... WHAT??? I meant the wait staff as I husk those mussels and peel them shrimp, what did you think I meant? In between Cherry's and the Cherry Pit we have a new option for breakfast kiddies and he's yummy too... no... not for breakfast but then again Priscilla has made her moves! I don't know his name or the name of the place but I did meet this man of mystery and let me tell you he is "yummy-licious!" He said the place will be open at 7 AM every day for breakfast and I know where I will be, do you?

Barry Jones and Jim Coppola, of GALFOLI & Dock of the Bay 2002 which is set for Sunday-August 18th, took me to a faboo new restaurant... Meritage... in Bellport, 14 Station Road to be exact. Call and reserve immediately... (631) 286-3300 and you will find yourself licking your fingers and the plates as they get cleared from the table. We took along Lady Ashley Brooke, my soul sister who writes La Vue with Ivana Adulation. Well Lady Ashley embarrassed me once again by reaching for that final dip of sauce with her last piece of bread and you guessed it... crash... she fell off her chair. The entire restaurant went so quiet that one could hear a pin drop, and then they saw who it was and sure enough the buzz was, "Oh, it's poor Lady Ashley, she don't get out much these days" and everyone went about their business as usual. Gay and straight owned, the 2 owner couples are simply divine. You must book soon and tell them... Priscilla sent you!

So that's all for now! There are some wonderful events coming in June: the (Community House of Long Island) Unity Picnic; OUTLOOK-LI is hosting their pre-parade breakfast once again and all proceeds from the $15 in advance price/$18 at the door benefits the L.I. Ravens Charity Fund while the 50/50 Raffle proceeds benefit Marriage and Equality (MELI). So sign up quick and for more information or directions call 631-968-7780, ext. 1.

I expect to see you all on June 9th in Huntington for LONG ISLAND PRIDE DAY! There are no excuses this year. The committee is working their tooshies off for all of us so we MUST show them we appreciate it by showing up... you hear me! With PRIDE and love and all them good things in between... xoxoxo, this is Priscilla signing off till next month! Kisses and HUGS!
