Get
the Dish with Miss Priscilla Pride!
by Miss
Priscilla Pride
"You're
A Grand PRIDE Flag, You're A High Flying PRIDE Flag And Forever
In PRIDE May You Wave! You're The Emblem Of The GLBTs That
I Love, My Homos and Lesbos You're So Brave! Every Heart Beats
PROUD For Your Colors So Loud, When They're Worn By A DYKE
Or A FAG! When All Of Us See Your Colors Up High, We All Feel
That You're Our PRIDE Brag!"
Fourth
of July celebrations came and went, so to all of you who celebrated,
plan to celebrate soon or keep celebrating the 4th
the entire month... light those sparklers & sizzle them
fire crackers... make sure you keep ringing in the 4th
with a BIG BANG... light your fire and toast them buns and
weenies and I mean the kind you eat, oh that's right... you
could really take all this the other way and it would still
make perfect sense... that's Priscilla, always taking the
double entendre road to hell!
More July
info will be discussed later; right now I have to review the
doings that happened during PRIDE MONTH! There were so many
Festivities it's hard to decide which to review. Well, let's
just dive in as one Pride Gal said to the other... what, like
you don't indulge... PLEASE, me thinks that the ladies doth
protest too much... maybe they need less protesting and much
more resting?
CHOLI
(Community House
of Long Island) "UNITY PICNIC" -- over 150
people rang in June with a party flair, like no other Long
Island GLBTs, attended CHOLI's picnic Sunday June 2nd!
Miss
Venise Charles gave her final/farewell performance...
someone commented to me that it's starting to sound very similar
to the Naomi Judd tour, but I snapped back, "You leave
my Venise alone... she can still cart-wheel and keep her tiara
in place while lip-synching and that's good enough for me!"
DJ Luna spun the tunes and all had a good time. Now one comment
to the CHOLI Board... all this hoopla this past month about
is CHOLI closing for good, CHOLI is staying open but somewhere
else, how far behind in rent are they, yadda-yadda-yadda...
before anyone else interprets me let me sayeth this,
a poop direct from hell-o, little
old me... communicate with us on a regular basis and let us
know the facts from you. This partial disclosure crapola makes
matters worse and for crying out loud, show up to the Networking
Meeting and fill us in, face the music and the questions like
the adults you are and move on... but not having one CHOLI
Board member attend the last meeting, and it was held at CHOLI,
was not a wise move... just some advice from lil' ol' me!
LIGALY
(Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth) - 2nd Annual Prom (Pride
Gala) June 7th: the kids had a
blast and the adults attending went down memory lane... I
saw a few tears, hell, I even shed some myself... I wished
we had a night like this in my hey day, but loved the fact
that it will be an annual event on Long Island. NEWS 12
covered the event live for their 10 PM broadcast and WKTU
103.5 FM broadcast live as well. David and the gang worked
their tooshies off to host another FABOO event that did their
kids proud! There was an exciting premiere that night... THE
LIGALY DANCERS! Dressed in our PRIDE colors, 12 kids and
staff members (2 people in each color) debuted their hot dance
routine. Jim Pizzo announced that the LIGALY DANCERS were
making their PARADE debut on June 9th and the 250
strong at the PROM went wild. I wept copious tears. They were
so fabulous. Now for the FASHION REPORT... all the
young ladies (and some cute boys who had the courage to dress
at this year's PROM in their own style) looked simply to die
for! The outfits, hair and makeup... I wept... you all looked
so adorable! The young Gay men in their tuxes with flair (makeup
and feathered boas) were marching to their own tune and that
made Priscilla PROUD too! Applause to one and all... as for
Priscilla, well... GINGIN's felt ensemble ripped at the last
minute and I was forced to rummage through my closet (last
time I was in one was at the ripe old age of 10) and found
a mélange of things that I threw together and it worked!
One of the kids got so bold as to escort me to my table and
then remarked, "Look Priscilla, our Drag Performer, SYBIL
BARRINGTON, has a cape more fierce than yours!" I
stopped in my tracks spun on my heels to face this cutie and
said, "Hers may be fierce but mine is real... it's mom's
MINK and no one disses mom, understand! Now bow and kiss Priscilla's
ring as an apology!" He did! Congrats to LIGALY and the
kids and the staff and David and the Board and hell to everyone
who attended in support, it was great!
LONG
ISLAND PRIDE EVENTS hosted by The Long
Island PRIDE Parade Committee (Jim, Eva, Billy, Pete,
Justine, Sandy, Linda, Cindie and Alycia), Sunday - June
9th: TWO WORDS -- Simply Faboo! This year was
better than ever! More groups marching than ever before, the
Cheerleaders and the Marching Band from NYC and HURRAY...
you got the Long
Island Ravens Pipe and Drum Corps to attend once again...
we all love them so much! The Proclamation from Huntington
and Suffolk County declaring that the second Sunday of every
June is Long Island Pride Day was a major coup! You all should
be kissed and kissed and kissed some more! And those banners
across 2 streets in Huntington and I hear a third will be
added next year... well all I can say is, you did us all proud.
The FESTIVAL... let' say it... you need more food vendors
but Priscilla spoke with Eva Sanchez, out lesbian who is now
the Executive Director and it's the first time a lesbian is
running the PRIDE events, and she told me that was one of
her goals in 2003! The non-food vendors were to die for, the
over 35 non-profit tables were great and the entertainment...
WOW... Elvira Kurt, the cheerleaders, MIRKALA CRYSTAL,
Hedwig and The Angry Inch as well as The Rocky Horror Show...
you outdid yourselves this year. KISSES, you made me PROUD!
LONG ISLAND PRIDE, PRIDE WITHOUT PREJUDICE is
such a timely theme. Again KUDOS & CONGRATS to the Committee!
You did the Long Island GLBT community PROUD!
JULY
and AUGUST EVENTS -- With my reviews taking up most of
this month's column, I felt compelled to tell you how you
can find out about the upcoming community events. Louis Trapani
developed this wonderful site called Long Island Community
Connection (LICK: the Web for short). He posts tons
of activities under Long Island Events on the site, www.licktheweb.com,
so click your way through one of the best GLBT sites Long
Island has to offer. Visit it often and see for yourself what
fabulous soirees the Long Island GLBT non-profits have planned!
There is so much going on this July, August and beyond! Read
the many articles posted!
One
last bit of news... the Gay & Lesbian Switchboard
of Long Island just premiered their web site... www.glsbli.com
and it is adorable! Since 1991 these guys and gals served
our GLBT community on Long Island... go their site and see
how you can help them out in any way you can... volunteer,
help them with their fund-raising, heck just attend an upcoming
fundraiser and that will be appreciated! Check them out, you
won't be disappointed and when you talk to them tell thank
you and that Priscilla told you to call!
PRISCILLA
is packing for my annual FIRE ISLAND jaunt. It is Misty Blue's
birthday on July 26th and 7 of us are heading over
to celebrate. SinDee Santiago is making her Fire Island
debut between August 2nd - August 9th
and the GROVE will just never be the same... trust me, she
is a must see! So ta-ta for now and stay cool this summer.
I will be back in August with Fire Island hot news flashes
that will just sizzle, I am sure!
KISSES... PRISCILLA!
