Priscilla Pride
Hi Kids!
I know I missed you in August... silly me I sent my article
to Louis to post and then went on vacation and since I don't
check my email during my down time, I never knew the article
was kicked back... well this age of technology is just too
complicated for me... so here's August and September... ENJOY!
"Summertime...
Fire Island Livin' Is Easy. Cherry Grove Is Jumpin', And The
Pines Is Doin' Just Fine! All The Bills Are Paid Monthly,
And Lights Should Be Workin'. So Why Is LIPA Not Fixin' The
Power Line?... One of these mornin's, you're gonna rise up
swearin'. Your power ain't workin' and you'll need candles
to dine. But when that mornin' comes, get those batteries
to workin', 'Cause daddy and mammy work them vibrators in
the dark just fine!"
That's
right kids; the evening of July 6th was hell
on all Islands... gay & straight! I dined with DOCK
OF THE BAY (GALFOLI boys) Barry,
Jim, Jim and Walter
(also Walter's beau Jan), David and Robert from LIGALY
(Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth), friends
John, Ken and Fred and guest of honor, her most royal highness...
Princess Mary Juana of the Wade, and then headed off
to Cherry's
for cocktail or two. After paying $10, not the usual $5 Fri/Sat
fee, to see a record company's supposed show, sipped
a drink
and talked to friends... POOF... the lights went out. We
all waited the usual hour or two and then started to
leave. We
knew it was serious when no other island reported having
lights either. Well, the owners never offered a free
libation or
a refund... how gauche! Let's just say they pissed off quite
a few patrons. I am at the Grove as this article appears
and
made sure that I packed lots of batteries, okay I packed
extra batteries, and new flashlights! I don't want to
get caught
in the dark and have to feel my way home... although, that
might be nice... and then find no juice for my playthings!
There are some sizzlin' hot events taking place both on the
mainland and the Grove... so get out there this summer
and
partee, partee with Long Island's crème de la crème!

AUNTIE
M"S HELPING HANDS INC. (AMHH) just had a Fashion
Show on July 26th hosted by Princess Janea, MISS
AUNTIE M's 2002, at AUNTIE M's. The bar co-sponsored this
event along with Romantic Fantasies of Babylon and a % of
all sales went to Auntie M's Helping Hands Inc., the non-profit
formed by the owners of the bar. AMHH, Inc. was formed to
help those smaller orgs not fully funded by government money.
These kids help you get your fund-raising gig off the ground
but there are guidelines and an application... call them at
(516) 679-8820 or write them at info@amhh.org
for more info. The FASHION SHOW models were to die for and
they exhibited the hottest styles in beachwear, leather, club-wear
and men's lingerie. If only I knew sooner, my chauffeur -
FABRIZIO, was available to model for them and would have raised
beaucoup dollars. Yes boys he's back, he's Latin, he's a stud
and he's mine... well he gives me a ride anyway, I mean in
my car... he's FABRIZIO! Catch him this summer in Cherry's
with me... more about him in September!

The Long
Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival hosted an ABBA evening
that rivaled MAMA MIA's Broadway debut! The Cinema
Arts Centre in Huntington rolled out the red carpet and the 7 PM showing
of ABBA: The Movie, a concert film show during ABBA's 1977
tour, was a sell out. The Film Festival guys and gals worked
hard on this event and are bringing more to Long Island, teasing
us before the event of the FALL SEASON... The Long
Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival - November
14-17! I was no longer a QAF virgin once I saw their debut
of the UK version in November 2000, oh these kids know just
what we like... but they need help to bring us the latest,
the controversial and the hottest GLBT films! So visit their
web site at www.liglff.org
to offer help or just find out about the Festival! FASHION
REPORT from July 3rd shows that Long Island
GLBTs know their ABBA... there were several people dressed
as their favorite ABBA group member and that was a bit scary
since it made me question... "Do people really dress
up in bell bottom, satin one-piece ensembles, don a wig and
use a brush while looking in the mirror singing, DANCING
QUEEN?"
Well, if you were there on July 3rd the answer
was a resounding... YOU BET YOUR ASS! They looked so cute,
each in their ABBA regalia! As for me, I was divine in my
ZIGZAG print ensemble by Emilia Poochie, half sister to Emilio
Pucci - known for his ZIGGURAT print design. I caught up with
Emilia recently and she told me that her family is still upset
with Emilio for changing his surname and disavowing himself
from the family. The House of Poochie, destined in the 60's
to be the premiere European animal fashion design house, went
belly-up when Emilio's scandal hit. He took his prints, changed
his name and is now "The Prince of Prints'. Well, Emilia
said that papa and mamma POOCHIE were distraught since Emilio
was slated to be "The Prince of Pets" and that the
family invested all their money in Emilio's pet print designs.
After the scandal the family fortune went to the dogs and
they were too pooped to fight Emilio at that point. The crème
de la crème of Italian society, known for their love
of their dogs, were shocked and horrified to learn that their
pooches would not be wearing an original Poochie anytime soon!
Emilia said that the fashion world still respects the family
Poochie enough to just ignore Emilio when his new collection
arrives on the fashion scene and that the fashion critics
never make a to-do about Emilio... HELLO, I said... EMILIO
is the hottest thing around! I told Emilia she was not up
on the latest Poop and that she needed a reality check. At
that point she just ignored me... oh well, she's living in
de-nial (it ain't just a river in Egypt anymore!). Back to
the Film Fest News... look for promos about the GROVE HOTEL
presenting the FIRE ISLAND FILM VIDEO FESTIVAL the
week between Miss Fire Island Contest and the Annual Cherry
Grove's Women's Weekend. The Grove FILM FEST Event will be
presented in association with the Long Island Gay and Lesbian
Film Festival kids! We love you all for bringing a bit
of Hollywood GLAM to Fire Island! So as the song says to all
you, my loyal readers... "Will I see you in September,
or lose you to a SUMMER LOVE?" ... Kisses - Priscilla!
