SUOZZI WINS ENDORSEMENT OF
NASSAU GAY DEMOCRATS

by Bill Borman

Tuesday, October 2, 2001

Tom SuozziThe Nassau County Lesbian and Gay Democrats have endorsed Glen Cove Mayor Tom Suozzi in his bid for Nassau County Executive. Suozzi recently defeated Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli in a primary held September 25, 2001. He will face Republican Bruce Bent in the general election on November 6.

Tom Suozzi has been Mayor of Glen Cove for eight years. He comes from a long line of Glen Cove public officials.  He is a graduate of Chaminade H.S. in Mineola, Boston College and Fordham University School of Law. He is a Certified Public Accountant and an attorney.

In making their endorsement the group cited a meeting held with Mr. Suozzi in February, 2001 as well as other subsequent conversations. The attendees at the February meeting found Mr. Suozzi very intelligent, energetic, engaged and interested in learning about those issues important to the GLBT Community. During that meeting Mr. Suozzi pledged to institute Domestic Partnership benefits to employees of the City of Glen Cove. As President of the Nassau County Lesbian and Gay Democrats, I've been working with Deputy Mayor Anselmo Graziosi to draft a proposal to be approved by the City Council.  The draft is completed and is expected to be enacted in November. Also Mr. Suozzi, in a recent conversation, reiterated his earlier pledge to institute Domestic Partnership Benefits for Nassau County employees when he is elected County Executive.

We urge all members of the GLBT community to vote for Tom Suozzi for Nassau County Executive on November 6.
